Indonesia Prepares For IMF-World Bank Meeting To Take Place in Bali

The Indonesian government is going all-out on its preparation to host the upcoming IMF-World Bank annual meeting this October. It is set to take place on the country’s most popular tourist destination spot, Bali.

Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister, told the press on Tuesday that a few of the measures the government will prepare for the convenience of meeting attendees include extra flights, high-speed internet coverage, security personnel and more than 60 holiday destinations.

The organising committee is also negotiating for extra business-class and executive-class seats on state carrier Garuda Indonesia’s flights, placing more than 12,000 military personnel and police officers on guard and readying 21 hotels to accommodate as many as 20,000 guests.

“We will ensure everything is catered for,” Luhut, who is also the head of the meetings’ organising committee, said. “We have also conducted studies to ensure that none of the Rp 800 billion (US$58.26 million) budget for the event goes to waste.”

The Finance Minister Sri Mulyani has said at the press briefing that one of the main agendas of the meeting will include the infrastructure and financial technology (fintech) development, and Bank of Indonesia Governor Agus Martowardojo added that the event will see discussions on ways to ensure inclusive and sustainable global economic growth.
