Mount Tangkuban Perahu Spewed Ash on Friday

Mount Tangkuban Perahu Spewed Ash

Mount Tangkuban Perahu has spewed ash at 3.48pm local time.

The emissions reached 200 metres above the peak. Head of the Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG), Kasbani, explained that it has now settled down.

“Phreatic eruptions come suddenly without giving out any clear volcanic symptoms,” he added.

The eruption debris from the 2,284-metre mountain has headed Northeast and South and is now deemed normal or ‘Level 1’ by the PVMBG. The organisation recommends tourists to avoid areas within the vicinity, such as Kawah Ratu and Kawah Upas, as well as the mountain complex.

In 2013, Mount Tangkuban Perahu erupted, producing gas clouds for about a week. A phreatic eruption occurs when magma heats ground or surface water.
