After having Capt. Tekad Purna (the drunk pilot of flight QC 800) dismissed for unprofessional conduct, Citilink Chief Executive Albert Burhan announced he will be tendering his resignation soon.

Citilink Indonesia has dismissed Capt. Tekad Purna for unprofessional conduct. The pilot’s improper decorum while showing up for work resulted in an hour’s delay of the budget airline’s flight QC 800 to Jakarta from Surabaya on Wednesday, December 28.

Passengers of the said flight demanded a replacement pilot when Purna reported for duty while drunk.

At a press conference in Jakarta on Friday, December 30, Citilink CEO Albert Burhan said that their management has decided to dismiss Purna based on the investigation reports and results they gathered.

The CEO explained that the pilot, for acting in an unprofessional manner in the performance while on duty, has committed a serious violation of the company’s procedures. Obviously, Purna ignored flight safety and security regulations, thereby endangering the lives of the passengers and crew.

Burhan added that Purna violated three fundamental issues, including Citilink’s human resources policies, company regulations and employment laws for which the company has zero tolerance policy on.

Citilink’s management called on both flight and ground crews to strictly comply with all standing regulations and apologized for the inconvenience that the latest ‘drunken pilot incident’ has caused.

In line with this, Burhan also announced his intent to step down from his position, explaining someone should take the responsibility for the incident that caused the delay of a flight, which apparently went viral on social media. He added that he will be submitting his resignation to commissioners and stockholders of the parent company of Citilink, Garuda Indonesia.
