Anies Baswedan: New E-Scooter Regulations to be Issued

E-scooter

Governor of Jakarta Anies Baswedan will issue a regulation on the use of electric scooters on the capital’s streets.

The Governor’s regulation is still in the assessment phase, following a recent accident that killed two e-scooter riders using GrabWheels and damaged a pedestrian bridge due to the use of e-scooters.

“Electric scooter regulations not only apply to GrabWheels but also to privately-owned scooters,” said Jakarta Transportation Departmen chief Syafrin Liputo.

E-scooters operating on the sidewalk and pedestrian bridges will be prohibited, otherwise they willonly be able to be used in designated bicycle lanes until the official regulation is issued.
Those who violate the rules will face preventive measures thus sidewalks and pedestrian bridges across the capital will be guarded by transport department officers and public order enforcers.
