Policeman Burnt in Cianjur Protest Dies, Perpetrator to Receive Harsh Penalty

Erwin Yudha Wildani, a policeman who was guarding a protest in Cianjur last week, has died in Pertamina Hospital (RSPP) today, 26th August.

Medical practitioners confirmed that about 65 per cent of Erwin’s body had been engulfed by fire. A video of a protester setting Erwin’s body on fire has also gone viral in the internet.

The West Java Police Department announced that the suspect who perpetrated the heinous act, Ryan Suryana, will be subjected to a harsh penalty. According to the West Java Police Chief, Grand Commissioner Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, the college student will face the maximum sentence of 12 years imprisonment.

“This has been set according to the law, overseeing crimes causing the death of people,” said Trunoyudo.

Ryan had allegedly thrown a plastic bag filled with gasoline into a crowd during a heated protest in Cianjur. The 20-year-old will be charged under Article 213 of the Criminal Law (KUHP) on violence enacted against law enforcers.
