KPU Declares Election Victory for Jokowi-Ma’ruf

The General Election Commission

The General Election Commission, or KPU, has officially announced the result of the 2019 presidential and legislative elections, based on the recapitulated results of the national vote count, last night.

According to the KPU’s official results, incumbent Joko Widodo is set to serve for another term, along with his running mate, Muslim cleric Ma’ruf Amin. Jokowi and Ma’ruf managed to garner 85,607,362 votes, which works out as 55.50 per cent of the total votes.

“The KPU has recapitulated the national vote in the main courtroom on the second floor and in the parking lot, and this implementation has been witnessed by both witnesses from both candidate pairs and supervised by Bawaslu,” said KPU Commissioner Evi Novida Ginting, at the KPU Office today.

Meanwhile, rivals Prabowo Subianto and Sandiaga Uno received 68,650,239 votes, or 44.50 per cent of total votes. The number of valid voters in the 2019 election was 154,257,601.

KPU Chairman Arief Budiman added that according to the existing rules, parties who have proof of fraud, or have reason to oppose the election results, can pursue a legal procedure with the constitutional court, up to 72 hours after the announcement of the official results.
