Most of the roads around Central Jakarta have re-opened today, following days of demonstrations along the streets surrounding the KPU (General Elections Commission) and the Bawaslu (Election Supervisory Board) offices.
The violent demonstrations and rallies have killed eight people and injured over seven hundred others.
According to Commissioner M. Nasir, a member of the Jakarta Traffic Police Unit, the traffic from Jl. Fachruddin in Menteng heading to Jl. Wahid Hasyim is directed straight to Jl. K.H. Mas Mansyur.
Access to the main road in front of the Bawaslu office from Jl. M.H. Thamrin will, however, remain closed. Barbed wire fencing and separators are still to be seen along the streets, guarded by members of the police mobile brigade (Brimob).
Plaza Sarinah, which is located across from the Bawaslu building has also resumed operations, along with the cafés and restaurants nearby. The iconic McDonald’s in the Sarinah building is, however, still closed.
