Singapore Intercultural School South Jakarta (SIS-SJ) successfully hosted the highly anticipated Mega Bazaar 2025, an annual event that seamlessly blended education, entrepreneurship, and social responsibility.
SIS South Jakarta is part of the renowned SIS Group of Schools, which consistently prioritizes academic excellence, holistic student development, and global values.
Held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, the event engaged students, parents, and the wider SIS-SJ community in an immersive learning experience beyond the classroom. The bazaar, which was held for approximately four hours, was attended by over 1000 visitors.
“The SIS-SJ Mega Bazaar was designed to develop students’ entrepreneurial skills, financial literacy, creativity, and empathy while reinforcing the school’s Desired Schoolwide Learning Outcomes (DSLOs). More than just a marketplace, the event provided hands-on opportunities for students to apply their academic knowledge in business, mathematics, art, science, and technology to real-world scenarios,” said Ms. Andi Elisa, the Interim Head Teacher of SIS South Jakarta.
Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), SIS-SJ Mega Bazaar emphasized:
- Quality Education (UNSDG 4): Encouraging active, experiential learning.
- Reduced Inequalities (UNSDG 10): Promoting inclusivity and diversity within the school’s multicultural community.
- Good Health and Well-being (UNSDG 3): Supporting charitable initiatives that improve lives.
This year, SIS-SJ again demonstrated its commitment to social impact, by donating all profits from the bazaar event to Komunitas Taufan & International Organization for Migration (IOM) Indonesia. Komunitas Taufan is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting children with critical illnesses, while IOM Indonesia helps ensure safe, orderly, and humane migration by providing humanitarian aid, supporting migration policies, combating trafficking, assisting with resettlement, and promoting migrant well-being worldwide. Through this initiative, SIS-SJ reinforced its mission of fostering kindness, compassion, and global citizenship for all students.
Students who participated in the Mega Bazaar developed essential life skills, including business and entrepreneurship skills, financial literacy and money management, creativity, communication, and collaboration, presentation and analytical thinking skills, empathy and social awareness, and real-world application of academic knowledge across subjects.
“Mega Bazaar was more than just an event—it served as a platform for students to develop critical life skills, engage with their community, and make a positive impact. By combining education with social responsibility, we empowered students to become compassionate, innovative, and globally minded individuals,” added Ms. Fitriyanti Ie, the Administrative Head Teacher of SIS South Jakarta.
“The Mega Bazaar was such a great experience! We worked hard to create our own products and sell them at the event. It was fun seeing people enjoy what we made, and we learned a lot about teamwork, budgeting, and selling. It felt amazing to see our ideas come to life!,” shared Asheeqa Shanum Ramsha, SIS South Jakarta Secondary 2 (Grade 8) Student.
