Mount Kerinci in Jambi Erupts; 800 Metre Ash Cloud Ejected

Mount Kerinci in Jambi has reportedly erupted today at 12.48pm local time.

The Center of Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) reported that the mountain spewed up to 800 metres of ash into the sky.

Kasabani, head of the PVMBG, said that the ash column is grey in colour and that it was heading towards northeast and east area. “The status of the mountain is now at level ll or alert,” he added.

Visitors are advised to stay as far away as 3km from the crater. Airlines have also been warned to avoid the area. Kasabani cited that there might be potential for further eruptions which could disrupt flight routes.
