Muslims and Hindus March Together in Idul Fitri Celebrations in Narmada, NTB

Local Hindus in West Lombok, Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB) took part in Idul Fitri celebrations.

Local Hindus in West Lombok, Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB) took part in Idul Fitri celebrations with thousands of Muslims from Narmada subdistrict.

The Hindu community even marched along the streets during ‘Takbiran’ night on the eve of Idul fitri, clad in traditional Balinese attire and waving decorative flags.

The Hindu community came from a small, Hindu-majority village called Gandari in the Narmada village. “This is an amazing experience because we can celebrate takbiran together. This is the first time Gandari village has joined the parade. So, everyone – children, teenagers and even mothers – participated in the parade,” said I Ketut Suweca, a Hindu resident of Gandari exclaimed with excitement.

Suweca further said that they have been warmly welcomed by the Muslims when participating in the parade. The Muslim residents even allowed them to march at the front of the parade.

Suweca expressed his aims of promoting peace, brotherhood and harmony among the Muslim-Hindu community in Narmada. Residents and religious leaders in Narmada also aim to promote their village as a prominent tourist destination by embracing religious tolerance.
