Head advisor of Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno’s campaign team, Amien Rais, has accused the General Election Commission (KPU) of silently backing incumbent Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in the upcoming 2019 presidential election.
“Logically speaking, in my opinion, from day one, making Jokowi win has been the KPU’s main task. KPU is a political creature, set up by the incumbent so he could be re-elected,” said Amien Rais during a press conference with the foreign media, held by his campaign team about the final voter list (DPT).
Amien insisted that it is normal for the campaign team to continue to question the DPT to prevent fraud during an election and that the information provided by Prabowo’s campaign team is indisputable. “I’m sorry, it is normal for a citizen to have suspicions against leaders,” he added.
The former chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) also claimed that the Home Ministry’s Population and Civil Registry Directorate General (Dukcapil) supports Jokowi. Meanwhile, the Director-General of Dukcapil, Zudan Arif Fakhrulloh questioned Amien Rais’s remarks. “Pak Amien must be able to prove his accusations. He must read the KPU Regulation 11/2018 Article 7 to know the position of Dukcapil in arranging the DPT,” said Zudan.
