Good news for Jakarta residents: five locations are set for New Year’s celebrations, and free transport is available to reach them.

Jakarta is once again the centre of New Year’s Eve celebrations with various spectacular fireworks displays at several iconic locations. In addition, public transport in Jakarta will be free, making it easier for residents to enjoy the excitement of New Year’s Eve.

Here are five locations for fireworks displays in Jakarta:

  1. Bundaran Hotel Indonesia (HI)
As Jakarta’s main icon, Bundaran HI is the centre of bustling celebrations. Thousands of visitors gather to watch the magnificent fireworks display, which is accompanied by music concerts and lively street parties.
  2. National Monument (Monas)
Monas is another favourite destination with the magnificent monument as a backdrop. The fireworks illuminating the sky, music, and cultural events create an unforgettable atmosphere.
  3. Kota Tua Jakarta
For a more classic and historic experience, Kota Tua offers a more intimate fireworks display with a relaxed yet memorable atmosphere, surrounded by historic buildings.
  4. Central Park Mall
Central Park Mall in West Jakarta presents a modern atmosphere with music concerts, fireworks displays, and exciting entertainment in an open area—perfect for enjoying with friends and family.
  5. Taman Impian Jaya Ancol (Ancol Dreamland)
On the beach, Ancol offers a combination of comprehensive entertainment, spectacular fireworks, and music concerts from famous artists, making it one of the favourite destinations for New Year’s Eve.

Free Public Transport To enliven the “Semarak Jakarta Mendunia” event, which also celebrates the 5th Century of Jakarta, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has made MRT, LRT Jakarta, and Transjakarta transport free on the 31st of December 2024 and the 1st of January 2025.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, said that this policy aims to make it easier for the public to access celebration locations. “The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is making MRT, LRT, and Transjakarta services free to welcome the New Year 2025,” said Liputo on Friday, 27th of December 2024.

The free LRT refers to the Jakarta LRT on the Velodrome-Kelapa Gading (Pegangsaan Dua) route, while the Mikrotrans or JakLingko transport modes remain free as usual. In addition, the Odd-Even policy will also not be enforced on the 25th to 26th of December 2024 and the 1st of January 2025.
