Free Inflight Wifi to be Offered on Garuda and Citilink Domestic Flights Starting 2019

Free Wifi on flights

Passengers can expect to enjoy free internet access on all Citilink flights and Garuda Indonesia’s domestic services starting 2019.

Garuda Indonesia Group announced the launch of the free inflight connectivity on Wednesday in cooperation with inflight wireless internet service provider PT Mahata Aero Technologi (Mahata).

Aircraft to provide the facility will be equipped with the GX Aviation System, which is said to be the world’s only high-speed global wireless connectivity service sent through a high-throughput satellite (HTS) network. According to a statement, the service is owned and operated by Inmarsat Aviation in cooperation with Lufthansa Technik as the hardware, design and certification provider, and Lufthansa Systems as software integration provider.

“[Free inflight Wi-Fi] not only aims to strengthen the existing market but also activate a new market that hasn’t been touched, such as millennial travelers,” said Garuda Indonesia Group representative Juliandra Nurtjahjo in a statement.

In 2013, Garuda Indonesia provided Wi-Fi service on all its B777-300ER and some Airbus A330 aircraft serving international routes, in collaboration with several service providers.
