Two Dead after Fire Attacks Pasar Kambing, Tanah Abang

Fire attacks Pasar Kambing

Fire broke out in Pasar Kambing area at Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta on Saturday evening, 10th August 2019. Two people have been killed in the incident.

Chief of Operations of the Central Jakarta Fire Department, Syarifudin, said that the two victims died while attempting to extinguish the fire. “They were going to the bathroom to put out the fire, but they got trapped in there,” Syarifudin elaborated.

The victims tried searching for water in the bathroom, which was located in the corner of the building. Unfortunately, fire had spread to the area and they were unable to get out. The fire was finally extinguished at 11.15pm. The bodies of the victims, who are yet to be identified, were soon evacuated.

Meanwhile, Adj. Sr. Comr. Lukman Cahyono, Chief of Tanah Abang Metro Police, added that the fire was thought to have originated from the explosion of a shredding machine in a coconut store, when the employees were trying to refuel the machine.

“So, probably, the fuel hit a spark when the machine was being refueled,” Lukman said. Four houses near the Pasar Kambing area were also attacked by the blaze.
