A young man who reportedly threatened to ‘behead’ President Joko Widodo in a viral video, has been arrested by the police.

Metro Jaya Police spokesperson, Senior Commissioner Argo Yuwono, revealed in a statement that the suspect, known as HS and who is 25 years old, was arrested at Metro Housing Complex in Parung, Bogor Regency on 12th May at 8 am.

The video showed HS in a crowd, along with other protesters, in front of the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) office. HS, who claimed to be from Central Sulawesi, was seen shouting “Behead Jokowi” in the footage. It was later discovered that HS is a legal resident of Palmerah, West Jakarta, who is currently based in Parung, Bogor.

Argo revealed that HS’s statement has legally been classified as a violent threat, which is a violation of both criminal code and the ITE (Law on Electronic Information and Transactions).
