Bali Police Pleading Motorists to Use Alternative Routes to Ease Traffic in Airport Roundabout

Denpasar Traffic Police are pleading with the public to find alternative routes as the roundabout in front of Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport has been experiencing extreme bottlenecking.

In addition, the road work project at the roundabout where an underpass is being built has made congestion even worse.

Police have now appointed officers to help try and keep the flow going at critical traffic points.

Denpasar Traffic Police Chief Ismail Rahmawaty said, “Police have prepared alternative routes and personnel along Sunset Road, Sunset Road intersections, Benoa Square, and the Udayana Campus intersection.”

An example of an alternative route is to use the Bali Mandara Toll instead of the Ngurah Rai Bypass via Jimbaran to go from Nusa Dua or Jimbaran to Denpasar or beyond. Another is to take the toll from Sanur to Nusa Dua if traveling from Denpasar to the south.

“We are appealing to everyone to pay attention to alternative paths. We are also disseminating information for socialisation. We also suggest that people use the toll road,” said Rahmawaty.

Another tip is to use a motorbike instead of a car to travel around.

“We also urge the public to reduce their use of four-wheeled vehicles. So, if you can go by two-wheels, there will be less jams.”
