5.7 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Poso – Central Sulawesi

A 5.7 magnitude earthquake is reported to have jolted the Poso Regency of Central Sulawesi on 24th March. The earthquake struck at 9.32 a.m. local time. The epicentre of the quake is estimated to be 129km southeast of the city of Palu, at a depth of 10 km.

Last year, over 2,000 lives were lost in a deadly 7.4 magnitude earthquake which hit the city of Palu. The Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency of Indonesia (BMKG) has stated that the earthquake has no potential to lead to a tsunami. There are still no immediate reports of damage within the area.
