In celebration of World Food Day 2024, Bali Island School (BIS) hosted a hands-on workshop for Year 5 students, focusing on sustainability practices for food waste management and how Magi Farm’s initiatives through small waste management units support the Government’s efforts to achieve the SDGs.

As a school dedicated to empowering students in an active and engaging learning environment, Bali Island School recently hosted a hands-on workshop in collaboration with Magi Farm, a social enterprise focusing on food waste management and sustainability practices for young learners. The workshop took place in the Bali Island School Multi-Purpose Room and involved 33 Year 5 students.

During the workshop, our students learned about Magi Farm’s partnership with local waste management units and had the opportunity to engage in a hands-on experience with maggots used for composting. At the end of the session, baby maggots were left in the Year 5 classrooms for the students to feed with food waste.

“Food waste is a global issue. This workshop inspired us to be more mindful of consumption and gave our students the chance to learn about waste management and sustainability,” said Vika, Marketing Manager of Bali Island School.

The collaboration between BIS and Magi Farm underscored BIS’s commitment to fostering globally-minded learners and critical thinkers, while promoting active community engagement.
