Grand Indonesia Operates as Normal, Plaza Indonesia to Close until Saturday

Plaza Indonesia closed until May 25th, 2019

Plaza Indonesia shopping mall has decided to shut down from Wednesday 21st May until Saturday 25th May following a series of protests which have taken place near the Election Supervisory Board office (Bawaslu) in M.H. Thamrin, Central Jakarta and the General Elections Commission (KPU) building in Menteng.

Marketing, Communication and Public Relations manager of Plaza Indonesia (PI) Tommy Utomo, stated that the mall has been closed since 2 pm Wednesday. It will resume its regular operations on Saturday from 10 am to 10 pm. Meanwhile, the Chairman of Indonesian Retailers Association (Aprindo), Roy Mandey, has said that PI’s decision to cease its operations is in accordance with the management’s procedure for security reasons.

State owned retailer Sarinah, which is located right across the Bawaslu office where the protests have been taking place for the last few days, has been closed since Thursday.

Grand Indonesia Shopping Mall, Plaza Indonesia’s neighbour and one of Indonesia’s largest retailers, suspended its activities on Wednesday at 3 pm but quickly resumed operations on Thursday.

“Considering the current situation, we decided to resume operations today,” said Annisa Hazarini, Public Relations Officer at Grand Indonesia.
