All low-cost carrier (LCC) airlines in Indonesia will be moved to Terminal 1 of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten Province, as part of the airport’s restructuring.
The low-cost carrier (LCC) airlines affected by this restructuring include Citilink, a subsidiary of Garuda Indonesia, as well as AirAsia Indonesia, Lion Air, and its subsidiary, Super Air Jet.
“For Soekarno-Hatta, later on, all will be placed in Terminal 1. All low-cost [airlines] will be [relocated] there,” said President Director of PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia or InJourney Airports, Faik Fahmi, to the press as quoted on Thursday, the 2nd of January.
According to Fahmi, the primary goal of this relocation is to alleviate passenger congestion at the airport. He also shared that Terminal 1 is currently undergoing revitalisation and will be upgraded to enhance its aesthetic appeal.
“Well, we are currently revitalising and beautifying so that Terminal 1 will be different. It is currently under construction, [the progress] is already 30% complete. I am targeting the [revitalisation and beautification] to be completed by August 2025,” Fahmi added.
Meanwhile, Terminal 2F of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport will be transformed into a dedicated terminal for Umrah pilgrims. The rearrangement of Terminal 2F is scheduled to begin at the end of January 2025. This change means that Umrah pilgrims will no longer have to depart from Terminal 3, as flights serving them will gradually shift to Terminal 2F.
At present, only Lion Air operates direct flights to Jeddah from Terminal 2F. However, once the rearrangement is complete, Saudi Airlines and Garuda Indonesia will also begin operating direct flights to Jeddah from the terminal.
In addition to these changes, full-service airlines (FSC) will be moved to Terminal 3.
“Thus, full-service airlines will be in Terminal 3. The [Terminal] 2F is specifically for the Umrah [pilgrims]. And later, the low-cost carriers will be in Terminal 1,” Fahmi concluded.
