The Bali Maritime Tourism Hub project is set to reshape the Port of Benoa into a luxury marina, attracting superyachts and positioning Indonesia as a key player in global maritime tourism.
In its efforts to continually adapt to changes in global tourism, Bali is preparing for a major transformation into a luxury marina. The island’s Port of Benoa is set for reconstruction into a world-class facility designed to attract high-end maritime travellers and their superyachts. This initiative, billed as the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub (BMTH) project, aims to reshape Bali’s tourism landscape.
The ambitious BMTH project, led by the state-owned port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo), was first announced in 2022 and has been steadily progressing over the past three years. Expected to be completed in the second half of 2025, the development will transform one of Bali’s most affordable resort areas into a hub for luxury maritime tourism. The new marina facilities will include a yacht club complemented by international-standard service stations, 180 state-of-the-art docks with the capacity to accommodate over 50 superyachts of up to 90 metres in length, and high-end restaurants as well as entertainment venues.
The CEO of Pelindo, Arif Suhartono, emphasised that the development of BMTH would mark a pivotal moment for Indonesia as a global maritime hub.
“The new marina in Bali embodies our ambition to position Indonesia as a key player in the global maritime industry, combining luxurious experiences with world-class infrastructure,” he said in a press statement issued on Saturday, the 5th of October.
While Pelindo oversees the marina’s construction, PT Marina Development Indonesia (MDI), in collaboration with PT Kharisma Anugrah Jawara Abadi (KAJA), will manage on-water service facilities and land-based entertainment venues, ensuring the smooth execution of this ambitious project.
“Indonesia deserves a first-class marina that reflects its status as the world’s new yachting paradise,” added Ulf Backlund, the President Director of MDI.
Bali’s transformation into a luxury maritime destination may further boost the island’s already strong reputation. Between January and July 2024, Bali welcomed 7.75 million tourists; the number of which suggests a 20.75% increase in international visitors compared to the same period last year. As an effort to introduce BMTH, Pelindo held an event called “Sail to Indonesia Goes to BMTH” from the 2nd until the 4th of October, 2024, which was attended by more than 50 yachters from overseas.
