Naked Man Attempts Palace Break In

Police are investigating after a naked man attempted to break into the Presidential Palace Monday morning, Aug. 28.

The 34-year-old man, identified as Brokington Sianturi, entered through the main gate at the Merdeka Palace in Central Jakarta.

As he made his way across the grounds, he was heard shouting: “I want to get married in the palace.”

Security guards immediately rushed to apprehend the man with five officers preventing him from entering.

A video of the incident was posted on Facebook by a person with the account name Novita Sitinjak. It was reported by Tribun News that the incident had occurred at 7:35 a.m. The video showed the man attempted to resist before guards were able to forcefully restrain him and pin him on the ground.

The incident was reported to the police, Gambir Police Chief Ida Ketut confirmed. After the case was handed to Jakarta Police for a thorough investigation, it was revealed Sianturi had suffered depression following the death of his girlfriend three years ago. Police said he was in an abnormal mental state during questioning.

“[Sianturi] confessed he will marry his girlfriend in front of the president. That was his hallucination,” Gambir Police Chief Commissioner Ardiansyah said, as quoted by Detik.

His brother Kennedy, who is keeping him company at the police department, shares that aside from dreaming of carrying out a marriage at the Merdeka Palace, Sianturi has been struggling with a lot of problems.

“As far as I know, he once failed to get married because (his girlfriend) was a different religion. It looks like he can’t control his depression,” Kennedy said, as reported by Coconuts Jakarta.

According to Kennedy, Sianturi works as a therapeutic tool dealer in Pasar Baru.
“He’s usually healthy, but maybe he’s depressed because his business is a little quiet. He cannot handle it since he has a lot of responsibilities such as contracts and his men.”

Upon investigation, police ruled out that Sianturi was under the influence of drugs.

Ardiansyah says that since his condition is currently unstable, Sianturi will remain at the Gambir Police Station at Central Jakarta for the time being. His brother Kennedy will continue to accompany him.
