Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister Luhut Binsar Panjaitan has ordered for an expedited expansion of Benoa Harbor.

On Friday, December 30, on his business trip to the island, Minister Panjaitan called on all relevant authorities, the regional administration, including the Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) to help in the accelerated expansion of Bali’s Benoa Harbor, as it served the state’s interest.

Panjaitan said he was hopeful that the project will flow smoothly, as there are no problems with permits and an environmental impact assessment has been made available. The minister added that all permit and administrative requirements for the expansion have been secured.

The head of maritime affairs explained that there should be no excuse or reason for any delay on the project because all developments are for the benefit of the country and all requirements in terms of the administration have been complied with.

Panjaitan told reporters he was set to meet with officials to kickstart the expansion project early 2017 to ensure that the planned completion target is met.

The minister expressed his pride in announcing that all developmental projects are a vital part of the Indonesian government’s programme and that the maritime industry will witness considerable improvement across several harbors.

Denpasar Transportation Agency chief Gede Astika and Denpasar regional secretary Anak Agung Rai Iswara were among the officials who accompanied the minister in his business visit.
