West Papua Shaken by 3.0 Magnitude Earthquake

West Papua

A 3.0 magnitude quake has shaken Fakfak Regency, West Papua Province on Saturday 24th August, at 16:16 East Indonesia Time (WIT). No tsunami warnings have been issued so far.

According to the Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) of Sorong, the centre of the quake was at the coordinates of 1,97 south and 132,01 east. It was 109 kilometres north of Fakfak Regency and 10km deep.

The earthquake has been categorised as shallow by the BMKG. No aftershocks are expected to follow.
