Ministry of Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Susi Pudjiastuti has urged the European Union to warn Vietnam about its constant practice of illegal fishing in Indonesian waters.

“We will push for Europe to punish Vietnam with a yellow card for illegal fishing,” Susi confirmed. The latest illegal fishing in Indonesian waters by Vietnamese boat was in North Natuna, Riau islands. The Indonesian naval ship KRI Tjiptadi-381 was also rammed by a Vietnamese coast guard vessel. Vietnam also claims that the area is also part of their territory.

So far, there has been four cases of Vietnamese fishing boats illegally entering Indonesian waters. Earlier, Susi had warned Vietnam to not conduct fishing in the disputed area before a final decision is made. Susi further iterated that Indonesia’s decision to tow their fishing boat is justifiable. Susi intends to sink 51 illegal boats on Saturday, 38 of which belonged to Vietnam.
