Popular tourist spot, wildlife park Taman Safari Indonesia, introduced six white lions to the public for Chinese New Year on Friday, February 16, as reported by The Jakarta Post.
The lions were brought in from Canada at the end of January, and were shown for the first time to visitors during an education program held during Chinese New Year at the park’s baby zoo.
Director of Taman Safari Indonesia Jansen Manansang said the six lions, four female and two male, are rare, and there are only 100 of them left in the world. The species of this lion is the same as those native to Timbavati, South Africa. “They have completed their quarantine period, but they are still under the monitoring and treatment of Taman Safari keepers,” he said.
Visitors packed the park during Chinese New Year, with most taking photos and viewing the critically endangered animal.
