The 6.5 magnitude quake which struck Ambon early on 26th September, has killed six people and injured four others.
According to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), the earthquake hit Ambon at 06:46am.
“The dead and injured people had been struck by a collapsed building,” said BNPB spokesman Agus Wibowo. The earthquake is known to have damaged four houses, three educational institutions, two worship houses, three office buildings, a bridge, and several other public facilities.
The intense tremor originated at a depth of 10 kilometres. Many of the residents fled in fear of tsunami. However, head of the regional Geophysics Station, Sunardi, announced that the quake had no potential to trigger high waves.
