Indonesia Attracts Illinois Investors through Business Luncheon

Business Luncheon Indonesia Illinois

A recent business luncheon hosted by Indonesia’s General Consulate in Chicago is hoped to boost investment and relations between Indonesia and US midwest business.

As of 2016, US private investment in Indonesia reached US$1.162 billion.

The forum was attended by 22 US-based entrepreneurs, the Investment Coordinating Board’s Deputy of Capital Investment Himawan Hariyoga and Laura Ortega, the Executive Director of International Business at the Illinois Chamber of Commerce.

The forum also serves to share first-hand information of investment processes and procedures in Indonesia. It targeted investors in priority sectors, such as infrastructure, tourism and maritime.

During the luncheon, Indonesia’s Consulate General in Chicago, Rosmalawati Chalid, said the climate in Indonesia is conducive to investment, despite concerns over the political, economic and financial situations.

“Although there are challenges, the opportunities that Indonesia has are phenomenal,” Ortega said.

Ortega added that her team is ready to improve cooperations between Indonesia and Illinois-based business.
In a one-on-one business meeting following the forum, Indonesian representatives touted a variety of investment opportunities, obstacles and regulations in Indonesia with several representatives from US companies, including Christopher Baxter of Burns & McDonell International and Mike Du Bois Kit Bond Strategies. The electricity sector and healthcare garnered much interest.

The General Consulate of Indonesia and the Illinois Chamber of Commerce later resolved to develop communications and networking in an effort to drive even more midwest business to Indonesia.
