Lombok Named World's Best Tourist Destination 2025

Lombok Island secures the title of the world’s best tourist destination for 2025, showcasing its breathtaking natural beauty, rich culture, and tranquil charm.

Lombok Island has officially been named the world’s best tourist destination for 2025 by Travel Lemming, a travel guide website based in the United States. This recognition places Lombok at the top of the list of 50 global destinations, drawing attention from international travellers thanks to its natural beauty, cultural heritage, and unique offerings.

With more than 10 million readers, Travel Lemming based its assessment on Lombok’s allure as an exotic destination that remains relatively uncrowded. The island boasts stunning natural treasures, including picturesque beaches, majestic mountains, and mesmerising waterfalls.

Furthermore, Travel Lemming recommended potential visitors in Lombok to go surfing in Kuta, snorkel with sea turtles off the Gili islands, and hike to waterfalls as well as the Mount Rinjani summit in Sembalun, Bukit Selong.

“Lombok is the island east of Bali in the Indonesian archipelago, and it’s quickly becoming a hotspot for tourists who prefer to go off the beaten path. It has all the trappings of a flashy vacation destination, but life moves at a slower pace here. Ride motorbikes through rice paddies and jungles. Hit the waves down south or climb huge, volcanic mountains up north. Travellers can live in a village homestay to experience traditional Indonesian hospitality,” wrote Travel Lemming’s writer Laura McFarland on the travel guide’s website.

This accolade has been warmly welcomed by the people and government of the West Nusa Tenggara province, who have made significant efforts to promote Lombok’s tourism potential. Initiatives such as the Familiarisation Trip programme have been introduced to showcase Lombok’s beauty to international tourists, particularly the ones from India.

“By making Indonesia the destination of choice for Indian tourists, one of the world’s largest outbound markets, this programme will help strengthen the tourism sector as the main driver of the national economy,” said the current Minister of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, in a statement to the press on Wednesday, the 11th of December.

Tourism promotion activities for Indian tourists are expected to increase tourist visits from the South Asian region, especially India, to Indonesia. Acting Deputy for Marketing of the Ministry of Tourism, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, added that the Familiarisation Trip programme for key opinion leaders from India has been focused on attracting tourists in the honeymoon segment, as well as Indian millennials, to the tourist areas of North Bali, East Bali, and Lombok.

“Through this Familiarisation Trip, we want to introduce North Bali and East Bali which are no less charming. Apart from Bali, we also want to introduce the Lombok destination which is one of the super-priority tourism destinations,” added Marthini.
