Jhoii Local Eats: Where Sustainability Meets What’s on the End of Your Fork

Jhoii Local Eats: Where Sustainability Meets What's on the End of Your Fork

Created with your health in mind, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner to their local community, tourists, and expats in Bali is Jhoii Local Eats. And if you’re wondering how to pronounce the name Jhoii, it is the same as pronouncing the word “joy”.  As founders, Cynthia and Simone both agree: we all need more joy in our lives.

Jhoii Local Eats Restaurant is located in the heart of Sanur, Bali, on Jl. Danau Poso, where the menu represents what’s on the end of your fork matters; you matter and are worth taking care of”

One of Jhoii’s “earth” (sustainability) programmes is the team’s deep interest in where their waste goes. Jhoii has implemented an on-site waste separation system. Organic waste is composted, turning food scraps into valuable nutrients for their partners at Bodhi Chicken Farm, Bali.

Non-organic waste is carefully sorted and recycled onsite by the kitchen and the front-of-house team. This practice is seamless as they have sourced the right partnership with a local recycling facility, Eco Bali, that ensures that materials like plastics, paper, metals, and glass are repurposed and, thus, will reduce the strain on the island’s waste management systems. This dual approach to waste management significantly minimises the restaurants’ environmental footprint and serves as a model for other small businesses.

The Jhoii team’s health and wellness is also a major focus. The Jhoii kitchen is dedicated to serving food that has the entire team’s health in mind. Team meals are nutritious and free from harmful additives, white sugar, dairy, MSG, and GMO products. Additives and preservatives are not included in any team family’s meals, either. Supporting our team’s internal health is vital.

The founders Cynthia and Simone’s stance against palm oil, as well as the 2,500 names that the palm oil industry has used to hide from us consumers, has been linked to deforestation and habitat destruction, particularly in Indonesia. By eliminating palm oil and palm oil derivatives, Jhoii takes a stand against environmentally destructive practices. This decision aligns with Jhoii’s partnership with Orangutan Foundation International.

Jhoii Local Eats goes further by sourcing organic ingredients and partnering with nearby farms and producers. They are active in making sure their food is served free from pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides. This practice is vital to our soil health and the health of our customers. Our community can enjoy their meals knowing that they are contributing to the island’s economic resilience and environmental health,” said the Jhoii team.

Jhoii Local Eats believes that sustainability is a journey, not a destination. For expats in Indonesia, Jhoii Local Eats offers more than just a dining experience; it provides a glimpse into treating yourself while contributing to the well-being of its team and community.

In conclusion, Jhoii Local Eats exemplifies how businesses can operate sustainably and responsibly. Their innovative waste management system, commitment to their team’s education on health and wellness, and dedication to local organic sourcing make them a standout example of sustainability in action. As more people become aware of the environmental challenges facing our world, Jhoii Local Eats provides a beacon of hope and a model for others to follow. On top of that, the founder duo love sharing their suppliers, their love of health, and, most importantly, lots of joy.
