Sri Mulyani: Government to Draft Electric Car Policy

Sri Mulyani

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani has stated that a Presidential regulation regarding electric cars will be released shortly, following a meeting with President Joko Widodo at the state palace.

The policy will support the automotive industry, especially electric-powered vehicles.

“We do not only have support from the automotive sector but also the supply chain, such as batteries. The policy will stipulate it,” she added. The minister expressed that there has to be a presidential regulation in the electric industry in order to advance the industry.

“There are various treatment or incentives, such as the revised amount of the luxury tax (PPnBM), as well as type of vehicles eligible for the incentive based on the emission,” Sri said.

Before the policy gets ratified by President Joko Widodo, Sri confirmed that her staff will start drafting finance ministerial regulation as a derivative policy. The industry ministry has also made sure that the tax incentive of PPnBM will only be effective for electric cars produced in the country.
