Police Name 30 Suspects in Papua Riots

Thirty people have been named as suspects by the Papua regional police in the rallies which turned into riots in Jayapura city and Deiyai Regency.

“Based on the intensive and comprehensive investigation, the investigators found 30 suspects in the incident,” said Police Chief of Public Information Brigadier General Dedi Prasetyo.

The suspects, who were rioters in Deiyai and Jayapura, reportedly damaged public facilities and provoked the mobs. The death of a military member and two civilians are also being investigated by the police.

Dedi said that President Jokowi will not tolerate rioters and provocation in the area. “Because they carried out acts of rioting, arson, persecution, and robbery that disturbed the community,” Dedi added.
