Indonesia and UK Sign MoU on Regulatory Reform Development

Indonesia-UK partnership

The Indonesian Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the development of regulatory reform in Indonesia.

Susiwijono, the Coordinating Ministry’s Secretary explained that the MoU covers technical assistance for the regulatory development, amounting to GB£1.14 million or Rp20.6 billion. It will be valid for four years until 31st March 2023.

“The Indonesian government pleasantly welcomes the MoU signing. We hope this cooperation will run well and help improve the regulation to increase the investment that leads to the growth of the inclusive economy and reduces the poverty rate in Indonesia as well,” said Susiwijono.

The MoU signing was followed by a workshop about post border and product surveillance regimes in Indonesia – the primary agenda for both countries. The deals will be implemented in the form of information exchange, education, training, seminars, and capacity building between the two countries.

The work plan and goals will be reviewed by both countries each year. British Ambassador to Indonesia, Moazzam Malik, has also said that International Civil Service Effectiveness Index (InCisSE) has declared the UK as the world’s most effective when it comes to policymaking and implementation of regulations.

“We hope this collaboration will be able to support Indonesia’s economic growth. When Indonesia succeeds, the opportunity in the world’s economy will be greater, and we’ll be able to create a more prosperous world,” Malik added.
