Prabowo Rallies Supporters in Jokowi’s hometown of Solo, Claims on Holy Mission to Save Indonesia

Prabowo Subianto

“We are on a holy mission to save our nation from being robbed due to our national wealth being taken abroad and leaving our people behind. Saving our nation from wealth that only benefits a handful of people!” Presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto exclaimed in his campaign rally at Sriwedadu Stadium in Solo, Central Java.

Prabowo also expressed his concerns about the number of spies from the incumbent Joko Widodo’s camp who have allegedly tailed him throughout his rallies.

The campaign event was held a day after Jokowi’s rally took place at the same venue. “Some of them are spies!” The former army general claimed. Prabowo also claimed that he has a way of recognising spies among thousands of audiences. The Gerindra Party chairman revealed that the expression of a secret agent could easily be read when he mentions the exact number of participants that attend his campaign events. “The spy usually laughs. See, there are three people who do not laugh, they are probably spies,” he added. He further compared a spy and a state actor on duty. “If he (the state actor) is on duty, he will always remain silent. He will never laugh,” he stated.

During the last presidential debate, Prabowo sparked controversy by saying that incumbent President Jokowi should not fully trust the Indonesian Military (TNI). In his campaign rally in Solo, however, Prabowo chose to thank both the TNI and the National Police for maintaining the institutions’ commitment to maintain neutrality in the 2019 general elections. Agus Yudhoyono, son of former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was also present at the rally.
