KPK Seize Mataram Immigration Officials for Bribery

Mataram Immigration Officers

The Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission, or KPK, has seized the head of the Mataram Immigration Office in West Nusa Tenggara for alleged illegal extensions of tourist visas.

The KPK has arrested an official, who is identified as K, in Mataram on Tuesday. Four other officers have also been taken into custody. K had been receiving bribes to extend the visas of foreign tourists who have been staying at a luxury hotel on Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.

KPK Deputy Commissioner, Alexander Marwata, also said that two of the suspects that have allegedly bribed the officers are an Australian national and a Singaporean national, identified as BGW and MK. They are reported to be business owners in the hospitality sector.

“We will coordinate with the CPIB (Corruption Practice Investigation Bureau) in Singapore and Australia to report the two foreign nationals who have bribed the immigration officer,” Alexander said. The two suspects have reportedly left Indonesia after passing money to the officers.
