Tonight, Indonesia is set to witness another face-off between the two presidential candidates, incumbent President Joko Widodo and his rival, Prabowo Subianto. After further evaluation of the third debate between the two vice presidential candidates on 17th March, the General Election Commission (KPU) aims to improve the fourth presidential debate tonight, 30th March, being held at Jakarta’s Shangri-La Hotel.
“The allocated eight minutes for each candidate will be strictly implemented,” said KPU commissioner Wahyu Setiawan. The fourth debate will have a different format compared to the previous ones. There will be a strict questioning session between the candidates. The debate will cover the topics of ideology, governance, security issues, and international relations. The four topics will be covered in two sessions, in the fourth and fifth segment.
The KPU will also invite 500 spectators to watch the debate, allocating 50 more people than the previous debates. Each presidential candidate will be allowed to bring 100 of their supporters. The other 300 spectators will be guests invited by the KPU. Wahyu Setiawan has also maintained that the organisation will not invite any Indonesian ministers. This decision is supported by both Jokowi and Prabowo’s campaign teams.
