The Ngurah Rai Immigration Office recently deported a Belgian national with the initials SD (31) after he was seen jumping off a cliff into the sea on a motorbike at Balangan Beach, Badung Regency, Bali—an incident that went viral on social media.

In the circulating video, SD is seen riding a motorcycle along the edge of a cliff. The motorcycle is tied to a rope to prevent it from falling into the ravine. He then accelerates towards the edge and jumps into the sea below, while his friends cheer his success.

The Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Bugie Kurniawan, explained that, based on the investigation, the dangerous stunt took place on either the 23rd or the 24th of March 2026. The act ultimately led to a dispute because the motorcycle SD used had reportedly been rented from a Balinese motorcycle rental company. As a result of the stunt, the motorcycle was severely damaged. When the rental owner requested compensation, SD refused.

“The incident was recorded on an action camera by his Austrian colleague, who then uploaded it to SD’s personal Instagram account,” Kurniawan told the press on Friday, the 3rd of April.

The Ngurah Rai Immigration Office subsequently summoned SD for clarification. However, on the 25th of March 2026, he fled to Sorong, West Papua. Then, on the 30th of March, he attempted to leave the country for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, via a transit route at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar.

Makassar Immigration officers successfully thwarted SD’s escape attempt. The Belgian national was then taken back to Bali for further questioning. Upon arrival, he was examined at the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office and eventually settled the compensation payment to the rental company. According to his statement, the dangerous stunt was carried out as a hobby.

SD was subsequently repatriated to his home country on a Qatar Airways (QR963) flight to Doha.

In response to the case, Kurniawan emphasised that, legally, SD had violated Article 75 Paragraph (1) of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration, for engaging in dangerous activities that were reasonably suspected of threatening public security and order.

“We have also officially submitted his name to be added to the travel ban list. We ensure there is no room for compromise for foreign nationals who violate the rules and try to evade legal proceedings in our territory,” Kurniawan concluded.
