Ngurah Rai Immigration Detains Interpol Fugitive from the United Kingdom

A 45-year-old British man, identified by the initials SL, was detained by immigration officers at the Immigration Checkpoint at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport when the system flagged him as a subject of an Interpol Red Notice.

Based on available data and intelligence coordination, SL is suspected of leading an international criminal group, having directed his network in running fake companies as well as carrying out money laundering activities. He was stopped during immigration checks after arriving in Bali on a flight from Singapore

Responding to the arrest, the Head of Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Bugie Kurniawan, issued a clear warning to international crime networks.

“We firmly state that Bali will never be a safe hiding place for international fugitives. The arrest of SL shows the strong instincts and experience of our officers at the airport checkpoint. Our system is well integrated, and our team is highly trained in identifying and securing individuals wanted by Interpol,” Kurniawan said in a press statement on Saturday, the 28th of March.

The Head of the Bali Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, Felucia Sengky Ratna, also praised the officers while stressing the importance of strict supervision at Bali’s entry points. She also noted that all units under the Bali Immigration Office will continue to strengthen coordination, stay alert, and make the best use of technology and international cooperation.

“We highly appreciate the performance of the Ngurah Rai Immigration team in securing this international fugitive. This success shows that immigration control in Bali is effective, integrated, and responsive to cross-border threats,” Ratna said.

After being detained in the international arrivals area, SL was handed over to the Ngurah Rai Airport Police for further legal processing, in line with procedures for handling international fugitives.
