Tiny Hands, Big Hearts: Bali Island School Preschoolers Give Back Through Charity Market

Preschool students at Bali Island School (BIS) recently took action to support a cause close to their hearts.

They put their creativity, teamwork and caring spirit into practice through a special Preschool Charity Market, raising Rp5,034,000 for BAWA Foundation to support animals in need.

The charity market transformed the preschool classrooms into a bustling marketplace, where students proudly sold products and treats they had helped to make themselves. The young entrepreneurs offered handmade items, including keyrings, flower pots and dolls, alongside homemade treats such as lemonade, cheesecake and Gabin ice cream.

The event was about more than selling products; it was an opportunity for the children to learn through hands-on experience. They learnt to communicate with others, work together, take responsibility for their products and understand how their efforts could contribute to a cause beyond themselves. The initiative also demonstrated how even the youngest learners can embrace the principles of an International Baccalaureate (IB) education.

“The Charity Market was a great opportunity for our Preschoolers to see that even small actions can make a difference,” said Mitha, Preschool Teacher. “They were excited to share what they had created, and it was wonderful to see their confidence and sense of care grow throughout the experience.”

The market was open to the wider BIS community, bringing together families, staff, students and community members to support the children and their fundraising efforts. The strong community response helped the Preschoolers raise a total of Rp5,034,000, which will be donated to BAWA Foundation, an organisation dedicated to improving animal welfare in Bali.

“It wasn’t simply about raising money for the kids. It was a chance to learn that being part of a community means caring for others and doing something when the opportunity to help arises.”

Bali Island School is proud of its Preschoolers for demonstrating that anyone can take meaningful action and showing that learning comes in many forms – sometimes through a classroom lesson, and sometimes through a small market led by tiny hands and big hearts.
