Bali Island School Hosts Bali Model United Nations XIV: Empowering Student Leadership and Global Citizenship

Bali Island School welcomed young delegates from across Bali and Sumbawa for Bali MUN 2026, promoting inquiry-based learning and IB values.

Bali Island School (BIS) proudly hosted the Bali Model United Nations (Bali MUN) from the 31st of January to the 1st of February 2026, demonstrating its unwavering commitment to nurturing globally minded learners. The event served as a dynamic platform fostering inquiry-based experiences, fully aligned with International Baccalaureate values.

With approximately 140 students from seven esteemed schools — Bali Island School, Green School, Taman Rama Intercultural School, Taman Rama School Denpasar, Dyatmika School, Canggu Community School, and Amman Academy from Sumbawa, the only school participating from outside Bali — Bali MUN became a melting pot of diverse perspectives. This rich tapestry of delegations enhanced the debates and strengthened regional collaboration among students in Grades 5 to 12, empowering them to engage critically with global issues while developing their leadership skills.

“Model United Nations gives students rich opportunities to build both subject knowledge and practical skills. Students often wrestle with research, writing, collaboration, public speaking, and representing a country’s perspective—challenges that directly strengthen the IB Approaches to Learning, especially research, communication, social, and self-management skills. MUN also offers meaningful CAS [Creativity, Activity, Service] through leadership, teamwork, and reflection,” said Alan Furnas, Diploma Programme Business Management and Middle Years Programme Individuals & Societies Teacher.

“In this student-led event, participants showed dedication, adaptability, and many IB Learner Profile attributes,” Furnas added. “I encourage students to prepare thoroughly, learn their assigned country, and reflect on their performance to grow as confident, globally minded learners,” Furnas added.

The Bali Model United Nations is organised annually across Bali, with hosting duties rotating among schools on the island, with the aim of nurturing future world leaders who strive for a better world.
