World tennis legend Rafael Nadal has announced the opening of the Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre (RNTC) in the Samara area of Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. The facility is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2028.
The new RNTC will complement the existing Rafa Nadal Academies in Mallorca and Kuwait. These tennis complexes are situated within premium holiday and residential resorts, combining recreation, tourism, and high-quality sports training.
With this new development, Lombok will join the Rafa Nadal Academy’s international portfolio, which already includes academies in the aforementioned regions, as well as Rafa Nadal Tennis Centres in Costa Mujeres, Mexico; Sani, Greece; Hong Kong; Marbella, Spain; and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The academy’s portfolio also includes the Rafa Nadal Tennis Programme in Egypt.
Nadal confirmed that the Lombok facility will be the first Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre in Southeast Asia. The complex is expected to feature eight courts in total, comprising four tennis courts and four padel courts. Furthermore, the Tennis Centre will adopt the Rafa Nadal Academy’s training methodology, offering programmes for players of all ages and abilities.
“This new project marks the arrival of our first Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre in Southeast Asia, reinforcing our commitment to bringing our passion for tennis and our coaching philosophy to a new generation around the world,” Nadal said on Sunday, the 2nd of August.
Maribel Nadal, the Deputy General Manager of the Rafa Nadal Academy, welcomed the new international project.
“We are very excited about the arrival of the first Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre in Southeast Asia. Lombok is a destination with enormous international potential, and we believe this project will help bring our methodology and passion for the sport to a new generation of players and families from around the world,” she said, as quoted from the official Rafa Nadal Academy website.
In addition to the Lombok project, another Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre will be developed in Brazil, which is also scheduled to open in 2028.
