Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that the cumulative number of international tourist arrivals reached 6.07 million between January and May 2026, representing a 7.68% increase compared with the same period in 2025, the highest figure since 2020.
“The number of international tourist arrivals from January to May 2026 is the highest recorded since 2020,” said Ateng Hartono, Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, during a press briefing on Wednesday, 1st of July.
In May 2026 alone, international tourist arrivals reached 1.38 million, comprising 1.19 million arrivals through main entry points and 188,535 arrivals through border entry points. Of these, Malaysian tourists remained the largest contributor in May 2026, accounting for 298,210 visits, or 21.58% of total arrivals. Australia ranked second with 155,030 visits (11.22%), followed by Singapore with 136,740 visits (9.89%).
“There has been an increase in visits by tourists holding Malaysian and Singaporean passports on both a monthly and annual basis. Meanwhile, visitors holding Australian passports recorded a year-on-year increase,” Hartono added.
Furthermore, Bali‘s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport remained the primary gateway for international tourists. BPS reported that arrivals through the airport were predominantly dominated by visitors holding Australian passports.
Meanwhile, domestic tourism also recorded positive growth. In May 2026, the number of domestic tourist trips reached 106.16 million, representing an increase of 8.83% month-on-month and 8.69%compared with May 2025. Cumulatively, from January to May 2026, the number of domestic tourist trips reached 523.22 million, an increase of 2.86% compared with the same period last year and the highest figure recorded since 2021.
