The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi dan Geofisika or BMKG) has issued a warning regarding the potential for maximum high tides in several coastal areas of Bali from the 11th to the 17th of August, 2026.
BMKG warns that the timing of peak high tides may vary by region, differing in both the day and the hour of occurrence. Activities requiring caution include port loading and unloading operations, community activities in coastal settlements, as well as salt farming and inland fishery operations. As a result, BMKG urges coastal residents to remain vigilant and prepare for the potential impacts of peak high tides.
In addition to the high tide warning, BMKG has also issued an advisory regarding the potential for high waves in the waters off Bali, particularly from the 10th to the 13th of August. Waves reaching heights of 2.5 to 4 metres are likely to occur in the Badung Strait, the southern part of the Bali Strait, and the northern part of the Lombok Strait.
Meanwhile, higher waves of 4 to 6 metres are expected in the waters south of Bali and the southern part of the Lombok Strait.
“The occurrence of the perigee moon phase on the 10th of August, 2026, and the new moon on the 13th of August, 2026, has the potential to increase maximum sea levels in several coastal areas of Bali,” Cahyo Nugroho, the Head of BBMKG Region III, said in a statement received by the press on Tuesday, the 11th of August.
The six areas potentially affected by the maximum high tide include:
- The southern coast of Jembrana Regency;
- The southern coast of Tabanan Regency;
- The coast of Badung Regency;
- The coast of Denpasar City;
- The coast of Gianyar Regency; and
- The southern coast of Klungkung Regency.
Nugroho also urged the public to keep up with maritime weather updates.
“Information can be monitored via the official channels of BMKG Region III Denpasar or the Info BMKG application,” he said.
