Somerset Grand Citra Jakarta proudly introduces its 2025 Sustainable Christmas Tree, an annual tradition reimagined with creativity, environmental responsibility, and heartfelt craftsmanship.
This year’s installation, themed “A Tree of Tales,” celebrates the idea of second chances by transforming unused materials into a meaningful symbol of the festive season. The concept was sparked by a simple question: “How can we create Christmas magic using what we already have?”
Inspired by this thought, teams from across all departments collaborated to create a centrepiece crafted entirely from repurposed materials found around the residence. Following a collective brainstorming session, the theme “A Tree of Tales” was chosen to reflect the belief that every material once had a purpose—and now has a new story to tell. With sustainability as its foundation, the team gathered unused books, leftover cardboard, discarded paper cups, fallen branches, and wood offcuts to build an installation that blends creativity with conscience.
The main structure is formed from stacks of unused books, sculpted into the silhouette of a tiered Christmas tree. Leftover cardboard was shaped into supporting layers and decorative touches, giving new life to what otherwise would have been waste. A whimsical snowman, created entirely from used paper cups, stands beside the tree, while charming reindeer figures—crafted from unused wood logs and fallen branches collected from the grounds—highlight the natural beauty of reclaimed materials. Soft dacron, repurposed from existing supplies, has been arranged around the base to resemble gently fallen snow, adding a touch of winter magic.
“The 2025 Sustainable Christmas Tree is more than a seasonal decoration—it reflects Somerset Grand Citra Jakarta’s commitment to environmental stewardship and mindful celebration. Through upcycling, we minimise waste, spark creativity, and encourage guests and the wider community to embrace more sustainable choices,” said Abdul Haris, General Manager of Somerset Grand Citra Jakarta.
The installation stands as a testament to the residence’s continued ESG initiatives and dedication to sustainable hospitality. It showcases the collaborative spirit of the Somerset Grand Citra team and their passion for creating meaningful, responsible festive traditions. Guests and residents are warmly invited to experience this year’s installation and celebrate a greener, more thoughtful Christmas.
