Anies Denies Giving BPPT Permission to Create Rain

Pollution in Jakarta

Jakarta governor, Anies Baswedan, plans to create artificial rain in Jakarta in attempt to combat pollution has been heavily criticised by Greenpeace.

However, Anies stated that he did not initiate the plan.

“I never personally talked about artificial rain. Better go and ask the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), tell them to answer it. I will refrain from commenting,” Anies asserted.

The BPPT had earlier announced that the Jakarta administration plans to create artificial rain this month, in order to tackle pollution. They also claim that the plans have been discussed beforehand with Anies.

Greenpeace Indonesia has rebuked the governor’s artificial rain plans, and stated that air pollution could be simply managed by controlling the sources. Bondan Ariyanu, Greenpeace Indonesia’s manager for climate and energy, also stated that the government has to control the source of pollution.
