Tangerang Government to go Paperless by 2020

The Tangerang City administration has planned to conduct all administrative work in its government offices without using paper starting in 2020.

Tangerang Mayor Arief R. Wismansyah said the program would benefit Tangerang residents as it would provide more efficient services.

“We set a target to be totally paperless in 2020. We want all services in the city to be integrated and paperless. That’s why in 2019 we are pursuing the regulation and legal framework for it,” Arief said on Sunday, kompas.com reported.

He said all administrative work that used paper would be replaced with an app, through which residents would need to upload documents, such as family cards or IDs. After that, residents would receive a notification from a subdistrict or district office confirming that they have verified their data via the app.

Arief, noting that the city was currently drafting a mayoral regulation for the app, added that the administration, along with several tech companies, was currently developing an app to support the program.

“We are currently digitizing our archives. In the future, residents will no longer have to carry their ID cards or copies of them [to receive government services],” Arief said.

“I want bureaucracy in Tangerang to no longer be out of date.”
