Malaysian and Singaporean Cyclists Win Gran Fondo New York Indonesia in Lombok

Long distant mass cycling event Gran Fondo New York (GFNY) Indonesia 2017, which was held in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), earlier this week, saw a Malaysian and a Singaporean cyclists come out as winners.

The track for GFNY Indonesia 2017 was divided into two routes: Grand Fondo (165 kilometers) and Medio Fondo (80km). The start and finish points were at Mangsit, which is situated right in front on the Holiday Resort.

Out of the 800 participants from 32 countries that took part in the race, Malaysian cyclist Raziff Jafaar, who had also won the GFNY Malaysia 2017 championship, came out on top in the overall male category, recording a time of 4:17:49. The female category, meanwhile, was won by Shirley Treo from Singapore, who clocked a time of 5:53:18.

The NTB provincial administration said it was confident that hosting such an event will boost tourism in the province as it will attract international attention.

“For us as a tourist destination, this [event] is what we’ve expected and what we need. With more foreign participants, it will bring positive impact to the tourism in NTB,” NTB administration secretary Rosyadi said, as quoted by The Jakarta Post.

“Our target for this year’s tourist arrivals is 3.5 million people; so far we’ve accomplished 50 percent of it. There’s a high chance we are going to achieve the target,” he added.
