The Directorate General of Immigration is collaborating with the Corruption Eradication Commission (Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi or KPK) to provide training on strengthening internal immigration integrity in an effort to improve immigration governance.

The Directorate General of Immigration invited Nensi Natalia, Head of the KPK Gratification Control Programme Task Force, to provide training on strengthening integrity among internal immigration officials as part of the agency’s reform efforts. The presence of the KPK representative was a key agenda item in the Integrated Internal Compliance Strengthening Socialisation event held in Surabaya, East Java, from Wednesday, the 1st of July, to Friday, the 3rd of July, 2026. The event was attended by 272 participants, ranging from high-ranking officials to heads of technical immigration implementation units from across Indonesia.

On the occasion, Natalia emphasised the importance of prevention in controlling gratification. These measures include maintaining integrity, avoiding conflicts of interest, regularly reporting assets, and reporting any gratification to the authorities.

The Director General of Immigration, Hendarsam Marantoko, who opened the event, also emphasised that every civil servant within the immigration system must prioritise good work ethics when serving the public. This is because the public directly monitors the institution’s performance, both in terms of output and service delivery processes.

Moreover, Marantoko emphasised that integrity is fundamental to maintaining the reputation of the immigration organisation.

Integrity and compliance must be the primary foundation in carrying out every immigration task and function. The public not only assesses the results of our work, but also assesses how the service is delivered,” he said in a statement to the press on Wednesday, the 1st of July.

In addition to representatives from KPK, the Directorate General of Immigration also presented several speakers from other state institutions. These included Moch. Fachrudin, Director of Political and Law Enforcement Supervision at the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (Badan Pengawasan Keuangan dan Pembangunan or BPKP), and Robertus Na Endi Jaweng, a member of the the Indonesian Ombudsman.

The presence of these officials was intended to strengthen the synergy between internal and external immigration oversight.

“Internal compliance should not be viewed solely as a supervisory function or as a means of taking action against violations. Internal compliance must become a living work culture within every organisation, from leaders to implementers,” Marantoko added.

Immigration has been making headlines since KPK detained the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections, Silmy Karim, and seven officials from the Directorate General of Immigration after they were named as suspects in an alleged extortion case involving immigration document processing. KPK has also uncovered alleged extortion by several Immigration Office employees in various regions across Indonesia against foreign nationals facing deportation for overstaying their permits.
