The Indonesian Government has decided to implement discounts on economy class tickets for the upcoming Eid 2025.

This policy has recently been introduced as part of the government’s efforts to ensure a smooth homecoming flow and enhance public comfort during fasting and Eid celebrations. However, this airfare discount applies only to economy class tickets.

Long before the announcement of the airfare reduction, President Prabowo Subianto had previously instructed a reduction in toll rates and airfare to facilitate public mobility during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2025.

The Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, stated that this policy applies during the homecoming period, offering a discount of between 13% and 14%.

The airfare reduction is supported by three main measures: a reduction in airport service fees of up to 50%, a 5.3% decrease in aviation fuel prices, and a reduction in the fuel surcharge for jet-engined aircraft of up to 8%. Additionally, a 6% reduction in Value Added Tax (VAT) will be covered by the government.

“This time, there is an additional incentive from the government, in the form of a 6% VAT cut borne by the government — so that the ticket prices will drop by 13-14% during the 2025 Eid homecoming season,” said Yudhoyono during a press conference at Terminal 2 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport on Saturday, the 1st of March.

He also added, “Hopefully [this policy] will also help people who have prepared themselves to return to their hometowns, meet their families, and celebrate Eid al-Fitr in their respective hometowns.”

On the same occasion, the Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani, explained that this airfare discount will apply to ticket purchases made between the 1st of March and the 7th of April. The discounted tickets are only valid for flights taking place between the 24th of March and the 7th of April.

“We already have PMK (Peraturan Menteri Keuangan or the Minister of Finance Regulation) No. 18 of 2025 concerning VAT borne by the government in part for economy tickets. This airfare discount applies to purchases from the 1st of March until the 7th of April — for tickets travelling between the 24th of March until the 7th of April,” Mulyani detailed.

That being said, Mulyani emphasised that this policy does not apply to those who purchased tickets before the 1st of March.
