China to Advance Political and Security Cooperation with Indonesia

Yesterday, Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Political, Law and Security Affairs Luhut Panjaitan met with Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, Li Keqiang in Beijing, China, in the fifth deputy prime ministerial bilateral dialogues.

During the meeting, both sides agreed to work together to increase security cooperation in several fields, which include: defence, anti-terrorism, law enforcement, drug control and the Internet.

“China is willing to work with Indonesia to enhance multi-level exchanges and increase political mutual trust,” Keqiang said as reported by CCTV News.

Keqiang also remained positive of the bilateral ties with both nations, saying that they share common interests and great potential for cooperation. Further, Indonesia and China’s bilateral relations may have a significant effect on the people of both nations, as well as serve as the driving force behind the economic growth in Asia.

From Indonesia’s side, Panjaitan believes that cooperation with China could generate mutual benefits. China can help boost cooperation and exchanges in areas such as security and fisheries, while Indonesia is more than welcome to more Chinese investments.

Both Indonesia and China also vowed to focus on stability and security of both countries by enhancing cooperation in counter-terrorism, cyber security, cross-border crime and law enforcement capacity building.
